Description

I started two projects recently, this one and the Iris nebula. We're still in a waning gibbous moon so I started this project, as it will be in narrowband, only. I'll save work on the Iris for when the moon will not be interfering so much.

This nebula lies in the constellation Cepheus, between the constellations of Cygnus and Cassiopeia smack in the Milky Way. The NGC 7380 actually refers to the cluster of stars, not necessarily the nebula itself, which is largely invisible to the naked eye.

The common name of this nebula is "The Wizard" which while not necessarily named in honor of the Black Sabbath song of the same name (and b-side of Paranoid), does also seem evoke imagery of wizards, especially that of Gandalf, the wizard from the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.

(if you need help, the wizard here is looking to his left in a pointy Wizard-cap, his arms out-stretched).

This is an "opening salvo" of 9 subs at 10 minutes each in H-alpha. I'm going to add more H-alpha, as well as SII and OIII to complete a "Hubble Palette" image.
